Doctor caught on camera mocking patient suffering anxiety attack

Damning footage shows Beth Keegstra ridiculing 20-year-old Samuel Bardwell who was taken to El Camino hospital near San Jose, US, on June 12 after falling ill during basketball training at his new university, The Mercury News reported.

In a follow-up Facebook post Donald Bardwell shared a note he had received which appeared to indicate he believed his son had experienced withdrawal symptoms.

When Bardwell tried to explain why he didn't have his Klonopin, Keegstra told him he was fine. "And I said, 'What do you mean you people?' ..."

"I'm sorry sir you are the least sick of all the people who are here, who are dying", Keegstra says.

Speaking with Inside Edition, Bardwell was asked if he could sit up in that moment. After Bardwell says he's unable to inhale, Keegstra laughs and says: 'He can't inhale? Wow. He must be dead. Are you dead, sir?'

"We didn't know what the effect of not taking the meds would be", said Bardwell's father, Donald.

At some point Bardwell responds saying he couldn't inhale and felt numbness and pain.

Donald Bardwell said his son has a history of anxiety attacks and takes Klonopin, a sedative that treats panic disorder. "So you need narcotics?" she asks Samuel Bardwell.

In the video, Bardwell is heard telling the doctor that Samuel had vomited and "was going in an out of consciousness" during the episode.

An emergency room doctor in California has been suspended after she was reportedly caught on camera berating a man who was suffering from an anxiety attack and claiming he couldn't breathe.

El Camino Hospital CEO Dan Woods said in a statement online that the physician in question, who came from healthcare staff provider Vituity, had been stood down from her position. "You have changed your story everying f--king time". The comment leads the Dr. Keegstra to instruct a nurse to give Samuel IV fluids and send him home because "he's obviously a doctor".

Wood said the doctor's "demeanor was unprofessional and not the standard we require of all who provide care through El Camino Hospital".

'We are saddened that a patient in our care was affected by this behavior and are working to ensure this never happens again, ' Vituity spokeswoman Allison Kundu wrote in an email to The Mercury News.

Samuel Bardwell was ultimately treated for dehydration and released.
