Liverpool confirm Can departure

The 19-year-old has risen through the ranks at Anfield since joining the club from Lucan United in 2012 and was named on the bench for the Reds' Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory over Manchester City.

He played 51 senior games with Liverpool after his debut in 2011, with the bulk coming in a break through 2013-14 campaign in which he started 23 Premier League games.

The German was unable to agree a new deal and departs after a four-year stay on Merseyside.

Can joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverksuen in 2014, making 167 appearances for the club during his time at Anfield.

Liverpool confirmed the news of Can's imminent departure via their social media channels on Friday afternoon, while also announcing the departure of Scouse defender Jon Flanagan whose contract is also set to expire.

The 25-year-old came through the club's academy but has not featured in the Premier League for the Reds in the last two seasons. However, Brendan Rodgers opted to use him as a holding midfielder and later as a centre back.

Speculation about a move to the Serie A club intensified in the second half of the season and Turin now seems a likely destination for the midfielder.

'Everybody at LFC thanks all departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future, ' the club wrote.
