The weekend of the 2016 Atlantic Hockey championship is finally here. Robert Morris, Air Force, Rochester Institute of Technology and Army advanced through the quarterfinals last weekend and will have a chance at a bid to the NCAA tournament.
The tournament takes place at the Blue Cross Arena, home of the AHL’s Rochester Americans. RMU and Army play in the first semifinal on Friday at 5:05 with Air Force and RIT playing 60 minutes after the first game ends.
In each of the last two seasons, the tournament has consisted of at least one semifinal game that went to overtime. Last year, Mercyhurst defeated RMU 4-3 in overtime. In 2014, both semifinals went to overtime, as Canisius defeated Mercyhurst in double overtime and Robert Morris defeated Niagara in one overtime.
This year’s tournament sees two returnees from last year’s: Robert Morris and the reigning champions RIT. Robert Morris was upset as the top seed last year, can they redeem themselves with this second chance?
