The Robert Morris Colonials were expected to be the best team in Atlantic Hockey this season. This was shown in both the preseason coaches poll and media poll. The Colonials won their first ever regular season championship last season and have nine seniors.
The team lived up to those high expectations, winning the regular-season title again, and securing some impressive nonconference victories against No. 10 Michigan, No. 14 Penn State, and No. 8 UMass-Lowell. Perhaps the biggest key to the team’s success was its depth, but like many good teams, the stars still led the way.
After defeating Bentley in three games this past weekend, the Colonials will shift their focus to their semifinal game against Army. The Colonials were upset in this round last season, so they will look to take advantage of the opportunity this year and have another shot at a bid to the NCAA tournament in the final on Saturday.
Given the success of the Colonials this season, it should not be much of a surprise that they highlight this site’s selections for the 2015-16 Atlantic Hockey postseason awards.
Following up on ATB’s midseason awards, here are ATB’s choices for Atlantic Hockey’s top player, goalie, rookie and coach considering the results from the entire season.
