Daily Fantasy Feature:  October 9, 2015

With the rise in daily fantasy sports (“DFS”) contests, I will have a new daily feature with my fantasy DraftKings lineup and analysis.  All “salaries” come from DraftKings.

Rules:

Nine players from at least three different NHL teams:

  • C, C,W, W, W, D, D, UTIL, G
  • Skaters:
    • Goal = 3 pts
    • Assist = 2 pts
    • Shot on Goal = 0.5 pts
    • Blocked Shot = 0.5 pts
    • Short Handed Point Bonus (Goal/Assist) = 1 pts
    • Shootout Goal = 0.2 pts
    • Hat Trick Bonus = 1.5 pts
  • Goalies:
    • Win = 3 pts
    • Save = 0.2 pts
    • Goal Against = -1 pts
    • Shutout Bonus = 2 pts

Today’s lineup:

C – Ryan Johansen ($6,000)

C – Nazem Kadri ($4,800)

W – Patrick Kane ($7,300)

W – Marian Gaborik ($5,500)

W – Tomas Tatar ($5,100)

D – Drew Doughty ($5,300)

D – Adam Larsson ($3,500)

UTIL – Chris Kreider ($5,000)

G –Corey Crawford ($7,500)

Budget: $50,000 out of $50,000

I think there is a lot of good value on DraftKings today.  With value picks like Adam Larsson, Chris Kreider, Tomas Tatar, and Marian Gaborik, I was able to still pick a couple of guarantees in Kane and Johansen.  Many experts believe the Saad-Johansen-Foligno line will be the most prolific scoring line in hockey and I want to make sure I grab the best player on that line in Johansen.  Kane is automatic for at least one point per game.

I like Kadri this year to emerge as the face of the Leafs and I expect him to add to his first point of the season against the Red Wings.  The Leafs defense looked relatively weak against the Canadiens and I will continue to draft players against them like Tomas Tatar.  Tatar is a great pick today at only $5,100.  Likewise, Gaborik has a fantastic match up against the woeful Coyotes.  I am taking Gaborik and Doughty in that match up. Kreider looked fast and physical in Chicago on Wednesday and I will take him again at the low price of $5,000 for my utility position. I love Adam Larsson this year.  He is a great young defenseman and although the Devils will struggle this year, he is potentially a sneaky good source of points against a Jets team playing on back-to-back nights.

Corey Crawford showed some weaknesses against the Rangers on opening night, but I like him to bounce back and the defending champs to get a win against the Islanders today.
